Pint with the President!
Tom Hazen
It
took a great deal of intestinal fortitude to brave the elements on
Wednesday, February 5, 2003. But
even though Mother Nature was doing her level best to snarl traffic and
send cars skidding off Twin Cities roadways, the following brave souls made
it to Brits for a hearty pint and good conversation: Curt Carlson, Tom
Hazen (only one wearing club colors AGAIN), Mike Manser, John Snyder, Rich
Stadther, and Barry Wahlberg. Rich
passed out flyers for the Donnybrooke Vintage Revival to be held at
Brainerd, May 16-18, highly recommended for all race enthusiasts.
After
a couple of pints, somebody suggested a Scotch egg eating contest. Curt won handily, of course, outpacing
the nearest competitor by an even dozen.
Then when the pints were empty, the group, minus Barry, sauntered
next door to Vincent, the fancy French restaurant where my ex-wife is the
pastry chef. Leanne came out of the
kitchen, her chef’s coat covered with chocolate and other mystery sauces,
and cheerfully explained the desserts and cheese selections on the menu. We ate like kings. We also got to meet Vincent himself,
although he looked more like a college kid who had just pulled an
all-nighter, rather than the owner of the place. Trust me guys, that’s really him. Next month we’re back at Bakers Square. See you there!

Cover – The much maligned Jensen-Healey. It is a Healey automobile, is very fun to drive, is powered by a Lotus engine,
and is available at very attractive pricing for a sports car. Ed.
